We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Beijing Shatan Hotel

Beijing Shatan Hotel is an international hotel that is invested and managed by Yumen Petroleum Administration Bureau China National Petroleum Group Corporation. It is next to the Forbidden City, to the west is Jinshan Park and Beihai Park. To the east is "Wu Si" Avenue and the site of the previous East Royal Root Park.

There are a total of 64 rooms , including standard twin, deluxe single, deluxe triple, business suite and so on. All rooms are equipped with telephones, colour television and central air-conditioning, 24-hour hot water, private bathroom

I have just returned from a week in Beijing and stayed at the Shatan Hotel, a block away from the Forbidden City, and nesteled amongst some older "Hutongs". The hotel was on the edge of a market street, with lots of tiny restaurants and warmth. We eventually tried some of the restaurants and they were wonderful.

I even used a neighbourhood beauty salon and recieved a sclap, face, neck, shoulder, arm and back rub for over an hour and a half - as part of the service. And the hair cut was one of the better ones I've ever had - for $10.

The hotel was extremely helpful, most spoke English of varying degrees and would go out of their way to make sure our business trip was as successful as they could help make it.

The rooms were fine - especially for the $40 Internet discounted price ($100+ through our travel agent). Many English TV channels (including HBO and news) were available, plus a hair dryer - but no shampoo. When they added the Cuppoccino machine, I thought I was in heaven. Coffee is hard to find in China - even Starbucks Coffee isn't quite what we'd expect.

As with most Chinese hygene, the floors were not as clean as my mother would like them to be, but the Chinese also don't like to see anything touch the floor - ie, my coat. They would rush to help me keep it off the floor wherever I was.

My only complaint would be that the bed was rock hard. We ended up putting the doona on top of the mattress to soften it a bit.

Interesting free breakfast, "sometimes free" internet access, plus many other amenities we didn't use. The front desk girls called taxis for us and would work out good deals - like a last minute trip to the Great Wall.

I used to staying at Marriotts, Hiltons, and Doubletrees when I was in the corporate game of 100,000 plus flying miles per year, but for a great location and great service at a great price, I'd stay at the Shatan Hotel again.

¡ôThe Internet discount room rate covers service charge.
¡ôThe hotel accept major credit card.check and cash payment

¡ôThe hotel will hold the reservation till 18:00 per your request
