History: Zhenglanqi has a long and profound history, which could be traced back 200,000 year ago. From Warring state period to Yuan Dynasty, Zhenglanqi is the activity place of Hun, Donghu, Wuheng, Xianbei, Rouran, Tujue, Huiqi, Qidan and Nvzhen. The colorful national culture deposit the abundant history.
Climate: Zhenglanqi has a temperate continental climate with an average temperature of 1.5℃. It is a perfect summer resort for the cool temperature in summer. The extreme maximum temperature once was up to 35.9℃ and the extreme minimum was -36.6℃. The annual rainfall is 365.1mm.
Transportation: Zhenglanqi is 238km north to Xilinhot, 400km west to Hohhot and 191km to Zhangjiakou. Its superior geographical conditions make the transportation convenience. State Road 207 and Provincial Road S304 pass through the whole city. Jining-Tongliao railway stops at the north of the area.
Local Food: just like the other parts of Inner Mongolia, residents in Zhenglanqi live on milk tea, mutton and fresh vegetables.
Attractions: Shangdu- Shangdu is the largest grassland city in China and the second capital besides Yuan capital. Shangdu Relics seems to be a huge museum of human civilization to present the past brilliant record. It was completed in 1256, by Kublai Khan's adviser of Han ethnic group-Liu Bingzhong. The design of the capital embodied the layout of a traditional Han city and at the same time took into consideration the habit of Mongolians' nomadic life style.
All the houses are covered with gold and decorated with the pictures of birds, animals and flowers. The groundsill of citizen's houses can still be pointed out clearly. a 65 centimeters high and 250 kilograms weight iron kettle, the Tiegan trench designed by Guo Shoujing, four white marble human sculptures excavated from the royal sacrifice site are survived.
