History: Yangzhou has a history of almost 2,500 years. It was built in the Spring and Autumn Period with the named of Han. It was once callned Hancheng during the Warring States Period. In 590AD, the city began to be called Yangzhou.
It was the southern capital in Sui Dynasty named Jiangdu until the fall of the Dynasty. It has been a leading economic and cultural center and major port of foreign trade since the Tang Dynasty.
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period, Yangzhou was still known as Guangling, but it was thereafter made the capital of Wu Kingdom.
The Mings (1368-1644) are largely responsible for building the city as it now stands and surrounding it with 9 km of walls.
Due to the war damage and neglect of the Jinghang Canal, Yangzhou was in decline. With the canal now partially restored, Yangzhou is once again an important transportation and market center.
Climate: Yangzhou enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. The summer is moist from June to August. The winter is dry from December to February. The annual average temperature is 15℃. The hottest moths is July and August with the average temperature is about 30℃. Its annual average sunshine is 2,177 hours. Spring is the best time to visit Yangzhou for its mild weather.
Transportation: Air-Yangzhou Taizhou Airport has been put into application in May, 2012 offering scheduled civil airlines.
Railway- Yangzhou Railway Station is situated on the western outskirts of the city provide passengers a number of major cities to the west, north and south.
Highway- The Ningyang (Nanjing-Yangzhou) Expressway has the Bazi Bridge as its entry/exit to the southern part of Yangzhou while the Ningtong (Nanjing-Nantong) Expressway entries and exits Yangzhou in Liaojiagou.
Waterway- Yangzhou Harbor, 11.5 south from the city center, provides passengers routes reach Nanjing, Wuhu, Jiujiang, Huangshi, Wuhan, Nantong and Shanghai.

Attractions: Yuangtouzhu-Yuantouzhu (鼋头渚) is a peninsula situated on the northwest shore of Tai Lake. Yuangtouzhu means “Turtle Head Isle” in English, because its shape looks like a turtle’s head. Covering an area of 539 hektare, Yuangtouzhu has been promoted as a national 5A Scenic Spot. The pavilions, bridges, and small ponds of the lakeside gardens are designed to accentuate the beauty of the natural landscape, not create an artificial landscape as many traditional Chinese gardens try to do.
