History: The original named of Ulanhot is ‘Wangye Temple’, named after Eqier, the third generation prince, constructed the ancestral temple. Between the year 1947 and 1950, Ulanhot was authorized as the capital of Inner Mongolia. In 1950, the capital moved to Zhangjiakou and then it moved to Hohhot in 1952. In 1980, Ulanhot recovered as the center of police, economy, culture and transportation of Xing’an League.

Railway- Baicheng-Arxan Railway runs through the pass south of Ulanhot, offering trains to Beijing, Changchun, Songyuan, Harbin, Dalian, Tianjin, Hohhot, and so on.
Highway- State Road 302 runs from Tumen, Jilin to Ulanhot.
