Location: Tunchang County(屯昌县) is located in north central Hainan, the north side of Wuzhishan Mountain.

History: It is said that Tunchang used to be a desolated field. And then in Ming and Qing Dynasty, lots of refugees who suffered from wars came here and began to bring wasteland into cultivation.
Tunchang County is a newly established county who used to be called Xinmin County. Xinmin County was constituted by Xixiang Village, Xinxing Town, Datong Village, Tunchang Town, Huangling Village, Tengzhai Village and Nankun Town.
On February 2, 1949, Dingxi Special Zone was established and it was constituted by Nanlv Village, Wupo, Village, Fengmu Village, beihai Village and Lingmen Village. In May 1950, Dingxi Special Zone was merged into Xinmin County.
Because it has the same name with the Xinmin County, Liaoning Province. In 1952, in order to facilitate the management, the State Council ordered Hainan Xinmin County to rename "Tunchang County."
Climate: Tunchang County belongs to tropical monsoon climate. The four seasons are not much different with each other. Tunchang County has long hours of sunshine and its sunshine hour ranges from 1900 to 2100. The annual rainfall is 1960-2400 mm. The annual average temperature is 23.1 ℃ to 23.6 ℃. Typhoon mainly concentrated in July-September, but has little impact on the county.
Transportation: Highway- Tunchang has two highway, two national highway and two provincial highway connected to other parts of the island. After the 2012 Haitun highway was opened, the way from Haikou to Tunchang is only 70 kilometers long.

Attractions: Hongdongpo Egret Bird Park(洪斗坡白鹭鸟乐园) is located in Hongdoupo Village, Tunchang County. Hongdoupo Village is a small one with only a dozen of families. The whole village is surrounded by wild trees and plants. Because of its unique geographic location, thousands of birds come here every year thus creating a peculiar scenery.
