History: As the capital of Shanxi Province, the history of Taiyuan could be traced back 2,500 years ago with its emergence during the Spring and Autumn Period. Taiiyuan was named Jinyang or Bing for short during ancient times.
Taiyuan played an important role in terms of Chinese history. It was once a prefecture in Qing Period, a state in the Western Han. During the five Dynasties, Taiyuan was the capital of Later Tang, Later Jin, Later Han and Northern Han. Taiyuan functioned as the producer of coal that supported the rapid industrial growth.
