History: Standing severe tests of time, Songyuan emerges as repository of culture and tourism spot recognized by people both at home and from overseas. About seven years ago, human beings settled down here and multiplied their population. Historic dramas have been set up day after day by numerous performers, including Guyufu, Bohaiguo.
The period of Song Dynasty (960-1279), Liao Dynasty (907-1125) and Jin Dynasty (1115-1234), has witnessed the prosperity of Jin Dynasty under the domination of Nvzhen Tribe. At the beginning of the latest century, Sun Yat-sen, the prominent forerunner of revolution, once proposed the construction of a transportation hub “Dongzhen” in the intersection of Songhua Lake and Nen River, which is now materialized into “Songyuan” in modern times.
Climate: Songyuan belongs to the humid continental climate region, under the influence of the monsoon. While spring is short of rain in most days, the city is receiving plentiful rainfall during summer, especially in July and August. The extreme temperature will exist in January and July; the annual mean is 5.55 °C (42.0 °F), which is definitely a cool temperature toward most tourists. As for tourism, autumn is recommended as the best time for visiting owning to the moderate temperature and prevailing sunny weather.
Transportation: Airways- Airport is now under construction within Songyuan, which will surely deepen the communication and corporation between the city and the world. It only takes 2-3 hours from Songyuan to Longjia International Airport.
Railways- Songyuan embraces 4 rail lines, namely Mingshui-Shenyang, Beijing-Harbin, Kezuozhongqi-Tieli and Huichun-Hohhot, running through the city and connecting the city with other cities outside the province. Especially the bridge between Songyuan and Zhaoyuan, now under construction, enables Songyuan to implement its function as the transportation hub and trading center, with efficient arrivals to Harbin, Daqing, Changchun, Shenyang and so forth.
Highways- The overall highway mileage is up to 4,058 kilometers long, with 6 national and provincial railways running through the city, including Beijing-Harbin, Tumen-Ulanhot, Baicheng-Changchun, Shenyang-Mingshui, Kaitong-Fangzheng, Changchun-Harbin.
Waterways- Songyuan is endowed with privileged advantages of Water transportation. There are currently 8 harbors along the bank of Songhua River, with a total berth over 4,000 tons, connecting Jilin and Harbin from south to the north. Songyuan Harbor, now under construction, is expected to be the largest inland port in China with the handling capacity up to 800,000 Tons.
Local Specialties: Main crops within the city include waxy corn, beans, Fuyu peanuts, garlic and Huangyan. Beside, Xinanzhen pepper, phragmites and dried vegetables are also receiving great reputations.

Attractions: Chagan Lake(查干湖)- The name "Chagan" is originated from “Tsagaannuur”, which means pure or white in Mongolian. Occupied about 420 Square Kilometers area, the lake is located in Qianguo Town, which is also the biggest inland lake of Songyuan. The output of fish within this region has achieved rapid growth, with an annual output over 5,000 tons of fresh fish. In addition, Chagan Lake is also the paradise of wild fauna as well as avifauna.
Longhua Temple(龙华寺)- Longhua Temple is located along the bank of Songhua Lake, inside the Ningjiang Forestry Park. Enormous trees and flora are gathered within this treasured place that has received thousands of tourists coming here for pilgrimage.
