Location: Lingao County(临高县) is located in the southwest of Hainan Island. It borders on Beibu Bay in the southwest and Qiongzhou Strait in the north.

History: In ancient times, Lingao were also called Fuluo and Linji and it belonged to Xiang Prefecture in Qin Dynasty. In 110 AD, Lingao was under the jurisdiction of Dan’er Prefecture.
In 607 AD, the Emperor Yang of Sui began to set counties in Hainan Island. As its territory was close to Yeshan Mountain, so the county was named Pishan County. In 713 AD, it was renamed Lingao County and it was once merged into Qiongzhou County in song Dynasty.
Lingao County was liberated on April 21, 1950. On November 30, 1958, Lingao and Chengmai was incorporated into Jinjiang County. On May 1961, Lingao County was separated from Jinjiang County.
Climate: Lingao County belongs to Qiongbei platform. The terrain is flat and it is slowly tilt from south to north. Lingao County is hot and rainy with adequate light. The annual average temperature is 23-24 ℃. The average January temperature is 16.9 ℃ and the average July temperature is 28.3 ℃. The annual average rain date is 135.9 days and the annual average rainfall is 1417.8 mm.
Transportation: Railway- Yuehai West Line Railway passes its territory. It can be both used for passenger service and cargo service.
Air- Jialai Airport in Lingao County has been put into use.
Highway- Haiyu west line passes Lingao County in its northwest. Lingao County is just 86 kilometers from Haikou City and 50 kilometers from Yangpu Port. There are 84 roads inside the county and the county has buses to all towns and villages in its territory.
Waterway- Xinying, Touju, Diaolou, Huanglong and other ports are navigable directly to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Hai'an, Beihai, Haikou, Sanya and other ports.

Attractions: Lingao Cape(临高角) is in the north of Lingao County and separated from Leizhou Peninsula. Lingao Cape is in a prominent headland in Qiongzhou Strait. It is surrounded by the sea and has a 7 km-long coastline. The beach is soft and white thus making a good natural bathing beach. There are lighthouse, customs sites of Qing dynasty, beacon ruins of Ming dynasties and other relics and monuments.
