We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Location: Jingzhou (荆州) is located on the banks of the Yangtze River.

Population: 6,457,300

Area:14,104 square kilometers

History: The ancient city of Jingzhou is what is now the main urban area of Jiangling County, which is one of the counties within Jingzhou City. Ying, within the borders of present day Jingzhou, was the capital of 20 kings over 411 years of the  State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn and  Warring State Periods of the  Zhou Dynasty (1046 BCE - 256 BCE).

The city is said to have been built with earth by  Guan Yu  in the  Three Kingdoms period. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties period, it was the capital of the  Western Liang. In the  Five Dynasties and  Ten Kingdoms period, it was the capital of the Nanping State.

Transportation: Jingzhou is a vital point of transportation in southern Jingzhou Province and the Yangtze River. The 483km-length Golden Waterway of the river is flowing through the city and the Shashi is one of the main ports in the middle reaches of the river, so Jingzhou is an essential stop of a Three Gorges tour.

Climate: Jingzhou is situated in the sub-tropical monsoon area, having abundant sunshine, warm weather and long frost free period. Like the neighboring city of Wuhan, the summer is very hot in Jingzhou. The average daytime high temperature during July and August is generally above 35 degrees Celsius and quite cold in winter. The annual average rainfall is about 1200mm, most of the rain is fallen during summertime.

Ancient City of Jingzhou- Jingzhou Ancient City (荆州古城) has been listed as the Important Heritage Site under State protection for its well-preserved wall architectural. Occupying an area of 4.6 square kilometers, the whole city is divided into three layers: water city in the out, brick city in the middle and soil city inside.

Jingzhou Museum (荆放博物馆)-A local comprehensive museum free of any ticket charge,  which is well-known for its excellent environment, rich stores and great archeologist achievements. Cooperating with other engineering projects, the museum has excavated over 120 thousand valuable cultural relics.

Events: Jingzhou International Dragon Boat Festival is held during the International Wokers’ Day.

Guan Yu Temple Fair, a large temple fair in Jingzhou local, has lasted for thousands of years. It was held in January and on 13th, May every year.
