History: Hengshui has a long history, which could be traced back to the Spring and Autumn period when it was under the domain of Jin Kingdom. In the early period of National Republic of China, Hengshui was a county. Until 31st, May, 1996, Hengshui was authorized into city-level.
Climate: Hengshui enjoys a continental monsoon climate with four distinctive seasons. Winter is dry and cold due to the influence of northwest monsoon, meanwhile, it has a humid and fuggy summer.
Transportation: Railway-Beijing-Jiulong Railway, Shijiazhuang-Dezhou Railway, and Beijing-Jiulong High-speed Railway meet junction in Hengshui. Hengshui Railway Station is called the first great railway station in the south of Beijing, providing trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Haikou, Urumqi, Harbin, Hangzhou, Xian, Hankou, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Dalian, Wuhan etc.
Highway-Hengshui has an advanced highway network. There are two national roads such as G106, G307 pass through the city. 6 highways including Shijiazhuang-Huanghua Highway, Hengshui-Dezhou Highway, Daqing-Guangzhou Highway, Hengshui-Xiyang Highway and Renfu-Jingde Highway meet junction at Hengshui. Hengshui Coach Station connects Hengshui with Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Shenyang, Xian, Baotou, Xuzhou and so on.
Local Specialties: Painting inside of the bottle is the character of Hengshui tourist specialties, which has been list as the National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Attractions: Hengshui Lake- With an area of 187.87 square kilometers, Hengshui Lake (衡水湖) is very suitable for the living and multiplying of the wild animals and plants. The bird resource is very predominant among numerous wild animals and plants resources. There are 7 birds that are first-grade state protective birds: red-crowned crane, white crane, oriental stork, black stork, bustard, golden eagle, and eagle with white shoulder. They are also many second-grade state protective birds: whooping swan, cygnet, and gray crane, 44 species of birds in total.
