Location: Haikou(海口) lies in the north of Hainan Island, and it is the provincial capital city of Hainan Province.

History: The history of Haikou can date back to Han Dynasty and it was opened as a commercial port in early Song Dynasty. In 111 BC, Haikou belonged to Zhuya County and it was under the jurisdiction of Jiaozhou governor. After the year of 1369, Haikou was subordinate to Guangdong Province.
On December 9, 1926, Haikou was set up as a city independently and it was called Haikou City Hall. However, on February 13, 1931, the City Hall was cancelled and the area was merged into Qiongshan County.
On April 13, 1988, the Seventh National People's Congress passed a resolution on the establishment of Hainan Province and the Hainan Special Economic Zone. Since then, Haikou has been the capital city of Hainan Province. On October 16, 2002, the State Council approved the combination of Haikou and Qiongshan to form the new Haikou City.
Climate: Haikou is located in the northern margin of the low-latitude tropics and enjoys tropical monsoon climate. Haikou has a warm and dry spring, hot and rainy summer, windy autumn and cool winter. The annual average rainfall is 1664 in Haikou.
Transportation: Air- Haikou Meilan International Airport is located in 20 kilometers southeast of Haikou City and it is a trunk airport in China. Haikou Meilan International Airport opened a total of 95 routes, including 84 domestic routes and 2 regional routes and 9 international routes.
Railway- There are three railway stations in Haikou; they are Haikou Railway Station, Haikou East Railway Station and Meilan Railway Station. Due to its developed transportation network, passengers can go around the island or go to the mainland conveniently.
Highway- There are three main highways connecting to other parts of the island running east, west and south distinctively.
Waterway- Hainan has three seaports for passenger and cargo service. The three seaports are Haikou New Port, Haikou Xiuying Port and Haikou South port.

Events: Laoba Tea- LaobaTea(老爸茶) is a special tea culture of Haikou. When dads and moms sit together to have a cup of tea, it is the unique scenery of Haikou. With little decoration and several tables and stools, tea shops are always located in small streets in the old town.
Tea drinkers are always middle-aged and elderly people living neighborhood, most of them know each other very well so that that can chat freely. When having a cup of Dad Tea, tourists can taste the flavor of Haikou.
Tips: The best time to travel is from October to next May.
