We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Location: Dandong (丹东) is situated in the southeastern part of Liaoning Province and faces North Korea across river.

Population: 2,430,000

Area: with an area of 15,222 square kilometers

History: Situated in the frontier, Dandong was a strategic place of military in the past dynasties. It was called Andong in 1876, referring “pacifying the east”. Dandong was captured by Japan in the First Sino-Japanese War. It was settled as the province of Andong Province in Manchukuo era. In 1907, this region was compelled to be opened as a treaty port and the name changed into Dandong in 20th, January, 1965. Recently, due to the trade corporation with North Korea, Dandong has been gaining a growing influence.

Climate: Dandong is under the influence of warm-temperate sub-humid monsoon climate, so it is the warmest and most humid region in Northeast China. The annual temperature averages 8℃ in south and 6℃ in north. 70% of precipitation in Liaoning province concentrates in Dadong with an annual mean rainfall of 926mm. The city gets 2,549 hours of sunshine annually, 35%in July and 67% in February.

Transportation: Air-Dandong Langtou Airport is the only civilian-military airport. It is in the 14kilomets southwest of the city center. Domestic airlines to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and so on are available.

Railway- Dandong Railway Station is the terminal of Shenyang-Dandong Railway, connecting with North Korea’s railway though Yalu River bridge. International railways Beijing-Pyongyang, Pyongyang-Moscow pass through Dandong Railway Station. Domestic trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Qiqihar, Harbin, Shenyang, Dalian, Shanhaiguan, etc. are available.

Highway-Shenyang-Dandong Highway shorten the distance from Dandong to Dalian and Shenyang. It is a convenient choice by coach in Dandong.

Waterway-Dadong Port is 245 nautical mile from Inchon Port, South Korea, which is the convenient passageway to joint South Korea and Japan.

Specialties: frog oil, Zuocan silk, Fengcheng Laojiao Wine, Dandong azalea.

Local Food: Korea cuisine and Mauchu cuisine are common in Dandong.

Attractions: Yalu River Scenic Spot – Yalu River is the river on the border between North Korea and China. Yalu River Scenic Spot (鸭绿江风景区) lies in the middle and lower reaches of Yalu River. The overall length is 210 kilometers from Hunjiangkou in the east to Dadong Port in the west. Yalu River Bridge is the core scenic, facing Sinujiu, North Korea across Yalu River.
