Location: Baishan(白山) is a prefecture-level city in the hinterland of Mt. Changbai in Jilin Province, China, which borders Yanbian in the east, Tonghua in the southwest, Jilin City in the north, and North Korea in the south.

History: The Name of the city, Baishan, literally means "White Mountain", and is named after Changbai Mountain in Chinese. Similar to Baicheng, the history of Baishan could date back to the Late Neolithic Age (8000 years ago).
In 1902, Qing imperial government set up the Linjiang County in today's Baishan region. During the Manchukuo period (1932-1945), Linjiang County was under the jurisdiction of Tonghua.
In March 1959, Jilin provincial government promoted Linjiang County to a county-level city and renamed it as Hunjiang City, which then developed into a prefecture-level city, consisting of three districts and three counties. The city was renamed to “Baishan” in April 1994, with the approval of the State of Council.
Climate: Baishan is considered as the coldest region in Jilin Province, with a typical monsoon-influenced, humid continental climate. The temperature is exactly flightly in spring, while sunny days dominate most of the days within a year. Chill as it is, the charming of the city is no longer defected but appealing to tourists all year round in search for the beauty of the snow landscape.
Transportation: Highways-With the acceleration of highway construction in Baishan city, it is estimated that the integrated network, which will connect places including Changchun, Shenyang and Harbin, will be finished by 2015.
Nowadays, projects such as Changchun-Songjiang River Highway, Changchun-Heda Highway, and Changchun-Baishan, is under smooth progression. There are currently 14 lines directed to Changchun from 7:00 am to 16:30 pm in Baicheng.
Local Specialties: Baishan has a jewelry box of fungi including Auricula and Hohenbuehelia sertina. Precious herbs including Rhodiola Rosea and Wild Schisandra are of effective medical functions. With regard of the cold weather in that region, wines are indispensable toward residents, as they invented an assortment of medical wines in coping with the flighty and freezing weather.

Attractions: The Yalujiang Canyon - The Yalujiang Canyon(鸭绿江大峡谷) is located in the south side of Changbai Mountain. Originated from the huge fractured trench, it was subjected to the washing and cutting of rainfall, and the errosion of wind, which then developed into the current scene in our view. The length of the canyon is 10 kilometers from north to south 200 meters from east to west, with a depth of 170 meters. The main part insides the canyon is dominated by forests, and is decorated with stones taking a variety of shapes. You will be certainly amazed at the magnificence of the canyon once you reach there.
