History: The history of Ankang could be traced back to Neolithic. The first known record of Ankang in history happened when it was placed into Xicheng prefecture of Hanchong County during the Qin Dynasty. In 1783, the place was named "Ankang prefecture". The prefecture was upgrade to city in 1950, but demoted in 1954, and promoted again in1988.
Climate: With a continental monsoon climate, the climate of Ankang features cold and little snowy winter, hot and rainy summer. The annual amount of precipitation is between 750mm-1100mm. There are sunshine hours 1495.6-1836.2.
Transportation: Air-The Ankang Airport, opened in 1938, has flights to Xian.
Railway-Xian-Ankang Railway, Yangpingguan-Ankang Railway and Xingyang-Chongqing Railway meet the junction in Anknag.
Highway-The highway G316 and G210 pass through the city.

Attractions: Mt. Nangong-Mt. Nangong (南宫山), a 4A-level tourist attraction, is widely known as the resting place for Master Hongyi - an esteemed Buddhist monk in the nation, the remaining traces of paleozoic volcanic activities, and the relic of quaternary glaciers and primary secondary forest. With an area of 7,648 hectares, Mt. Nangong is comprised of five major scenic areas, namely Erlang Ping, Golden Top, Volcano Rock, Quercus Semicarpifolia, and Lotus Village.
Ying Lake- Occupying an area of 102.8 kilometers, Ying Lake (瀛湖) is highly phrased as the “Lake of thousand Island in Shaanxi”. The Lake is the largest green man-made lake with fresh water in the northwest China after the foundation of the Ankang Power Station. The Yinghu Lake is the very place where literators get together so as to compose poems, paint paintings and take photos.
