Location of Chengdu Giant Panda Base

The Giant Panda Breeding Research Base is located on the mountain of Futoushan in the northern suburbs of Chengdu, about 20km northeast of downtown Chengdu. There is a wide panda ( Xiongmao ) avenue connected with the urban area.

ABC of Chengdu Giant Panda Base

The Chengdu Giant Panda Base has the largest number of giant pandas in the world, raising more than 100 giant pandas in total.

Chengdu Giant Panda Base is not only a research institution of giant panda breeding, but also an ecological park that simulates the wild habitat of giant pandas.

Here, you can watch the pandas through fences or glass windows, and if you’re lucky, watch them in the open air. If good luck follows you, you can see the newborn panda in the delivery room.

Villa 1 and Villa 2

Villa 1 and Villa 2 are the habitats of adult pandas, where you can see pandas playing, eating, sleeping and other daily activities.

Moon & Sun Delivery Rooms

The moon and sun delivery rooms are the places where the giant panda is pregnant and ready for delivery and where the newborn and baby red pandas live. Every day, the newborn pandas will meet at 2 to 4 PM. The baby pandas in the moon or sun delivery room are worth a visit.

The Panda Research Base shows many practical specimens of the Giant Panda, including fossils, dissected anatomical remains, diet specimens, etc. Additionally there is a Giant Panda Museum together with research laboratories and a training center.

The Red Panda Playground

Walk from the panda playground to the red panda playground, basically you will encounter free-roaming red pandas and they are just as cute as giant pandas, and even more lovable.

They walk up and down at your feet, full of enthusiasm, and even stand up as they walk straight towards tourists.

There are several shuttle lines running to and from the panda base:

Wuhou Shrine/Jinli Street (Starting point) — Panda Base (25KM)
Departure time: 8:30 — 15:00 (half an hour)
Return time: 9:30 — 18:00 (all departures are half an hour except 11:30)

Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley (Starting point) — Panda Base (25KM)
Departure time: 8:30 — 14:30 (every hour)
Return time: 9:30 — 17:30 (every hour)

Chengdu Bus/Metro East Station (Departure point) — Panda Base (30KM)
Departure time: 8:30 — 15:00 (every hour)
Return time: 9:30 — 18:00 (every hour)

Panda Base (Origin point) — Sanxingdui Site (43KM)
Departure time: 12:30
Return Time: 15:30 16:00 (Back to Wuhou Temple)

Panda Base-airport: take the bus to Wuhou Temple or Kuanzhai Alley and then transfer to the airport
