Walk or take a bus to your nearest subway station and try to take subway line 5 or interchange for subway line 5. Get off at the stop of East Temple of Heaven (天坛东站）of Line 5. Then walk to the nearby east gate of Temple of Heaven. The Temple of Heaven is more than just a temple, it is a huge park as well. Inside the huge park, there is a lovely temple complex, which is composed of three main parts – Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Imperial Vault of Heaven and Circular Mound Altar sitting along an axis from south to north. Then backtrack to the stop of East Temple of Heaven (天坛东站) of subway line 5, take subway line 5 and get off at the stop of
Dongdan (东单站), and interchange for subway line 1 and get off at the stop of East Tiananmen (天安门东)and exit at the EXIT D. From the Exit D, walk to Tiananmen Square. Tiananmen Square is mainly composed of the national flagpole (spectacular flag ceremony) in the north; the Monument to the People's Heroes and the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong in the middle and the beautiful Zhengyang Gate in the south. Tiananmen Square is flanked by the Gate of Heavenly Peace (the entrance to The Forbidden City) on the north, Chinese National Museum on the east, the Great Hall of the People (China’s parliament) on the west and Qianmen (Arrow Tower) on the south.

Move on to Forbidden City from its south gate( Meridian Gate – Wumen). There are two entrances to the Forbidden City - the southern gate ( Meridian Gate – Wumen) and northern gate(Gate of Divine – Shenwu Men). The southern gate is linked to Tiananmen Square to the south. You have to enter Forbidden City from its southern gate and eixt from its northern gate, which is officially set as a one-way south to north travel route. The Forbidden City is huge, covering an area of 72 hectares. Normally you should cruise through in two or three hours. Plan this together with Tiananmen Square, Jinshan Park or Beijing park.
