Plan your Shanghai tour? Shanghai is a shopping paradise in China. Although malls and shopping centers are becoming more popular, the majority of Shanghai residents still shop in markets.

Markets make life easier for the shoppers. If you are wondering where to shop in the markets in Shanghai during your short Shanghai trip. We’ve rounded up a list of some popular markets and shopping streets in Shanghai which you might find useful planning your own shopping trip.

No.01 Yuyuan Market ( Yuyuan Bazaar) (上海豫园商城 批发市场)

Located next to the Yu Garden and also known as the City God Temple market, Yuyuan market is a wonderful place to experience local life. If you want to look back on the bygone days of Shanghai Yuyuan Market will lead you back to 100 years ago.

There are over a hundred stores and shops in this area, selling a mish-mash of items including Chinese medicine, walking sticks, silk umbrellas, bamboo and rattan furniture, goldfish, etc. Local people in Shanghai enjoy shopping here. They can find things unobtainable elsewhere and they dine at their favorite restaurants.

Check out my following articles for more information on Yuyuan and its market:

trainers(Nike,Reebok etc) at a good price? I’m familiar with the MTR system and am

stores can only find bad copies in the markets. Also is it better to take
sterling and change in a bank or currency exchange to get the best rates?

  20. Ish Hussain,

Actually, there are many Nike stores or Reebok in Shanghai. Some of the stores are independently located along the streest while some of them are placed in big department stores. 43. Dear Admin,
I’ve been to a market in Shanghai but totally forgot its name/address. I think the building is kind of yellow and they sell mainly bags/shoes/trunks.
It is situated in the central area of the city and I guess its probably close to Huaihai Lu and Nanjing Lu.
And on the same street upper, there is plenty of cloths shops on both sides, such as Zara, H&M (huge, 2-3 floors), Asobio, Mango, Bershka etc. etc. …
I hope you can recognize it and be so kind to give me name/address.
    Thx a lot in advance!

  44. Greetings,

    Many thanks

  45. Hello Gloria,
