Miaoying Monastery

There are two famous Tibetan-style white pagodas in Beijing, which are less than 10 km away from each other., Yong’an Monastery White Pagoda in the east, Miaoying Monastery White Pagoda in the west.

During the 13th and 14th centuries, the monastery was the place for holding religious activities and translating scriptures in Beijing by the royal family o the Yuan Dynasty.
At the time of reconstruction in 1457, temple halls were all placed in the front of the pagoda. Main buildings include the entrance gate, the Bell-Drum Tower, Tianwang Palace, Yizhu Xinjing Hall, Seven-Buddha Hall, with their area accounting for only one-12th of the original.
Today, Miaoying Monastery retains its past-reconstruction pattern, except the entrance gate and Bell-Drum Tower that were demolished.
