Silk Market
Shopping at famed Silk Street Market (秀水街) in Beijing is a "must" on the agenda of most foreign travellers and residents. Now the market is more than a street market, and it is a seven-floor complex with 1,600 booths.
In the market mansion, the store assistants are much better trained in both customer service and language skills. Their English often goes way beyond the old days of "cheaper...". "your price...". But the numbers are still often typed out on a calculator to be clear and to avoid other customers hearing how much you paid.
In order to meet the demand for shopping after work, the new market is open to business for the golden shopping time after five o'clock in the afternoon. There are several hundred parking lots in the two squares round the building. Equipped with a clinic for foreigners and a foreign reception room, the market has signed agreements with many famous travel agencies at home. In addition, the vendors will be trained in foreign languages and a sound language environment is available for shoppers.
