Situated in the northeastern Beijing city proper, Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub is one of the important transportation hubs in Beijing Transportation.
The hub’s Chinese name is called “东直门交通枢纽”, which is often translated into different versions in English on the internet such as Dongzhimen Traffic Hub, Dongzhimen Transit Hub, Dongzhimen Transportation Hub, Dongzhimen Public Transit Hub, Dongzhimen Transport Hub, etc.
Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub (东直门交通枢纽) is mainly composed of three forms of public transport – Dongzhimen Bus Station ( or officially called “Bus Transfer Hall”), Dongzhimen Subway Station ( Subway Line 2 and 13) and Dongzhimen Airport Express. These three forms of public transport are connected underground as a whole.
Dongzhimen Public Transport is housed in a huge business complex building lying on the northeastern corner of Dongzhimen Bridge. When talking about Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub (东直门交通枢纽), we very often refer it to Dongzhimen Bus Station ( Bus Transfer Hall of Dongzhimen Transport Hub).
For many passengers coming to Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub, they would go to Dongzhimen Bus Station that brings them to Huairou District ( then change for Mutianyu Great Wall), Miyun (Jinshanling or Simatai Great Wall), Pingu District (Glass Sightseeing Platform) or Shunyi District since Dongzhimen Bus Station covers the public bus transport in the northeast suburban area around Beijing.
There are mainly two entrances – the South Entrance and North Entrance to the Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub.
The Bus Transfer Hall ( Dongzhimen Bus Station ) is on the first floor of the Dongzhimen Transport Hub Building.
The Bus Transfer Hall is mainly composed of two parts – North Platform and South Platform.

Do you pay for your bus tickets?
1. Public Bus Service within downtown Beijing
Basically two options:
1) Buy a Beijing bus IC card, a kind of transportation smart card. Boarding a bus, you swipe your card at the front door and swipe again at the back door again when you alight.
2)Be ready for coins and drop the coins or some value paper money into the slit of an iron box standing at the front of the bus by the driver.
Note: Tell your driver where you are going and he will tell how much you should pay.
2. Suburban Buses going to the outskirts of Beijing
Basically you also have the same two options:
1) Buy a Beijing bus IC card, a kind of transportation smart card. Boarding a bus, you swipe your card.
2)Be ready for coins and drop the coins or some value paper money into the slit of an iron box standing at the front of the bus by the driver.
Note: Tell your driver where you are going and he will tell how much you should pay.
3. Long-distance buses going to other cities
Basically you also have two options:
1) Buy your bus ticket at a ticketing office
2) Or you pay while boarding the bus to make up a ticket, but this option can not secure you a seat if your bus is overloaded.

Hi! How do I get to Ming Tombs from Mutianyu?
Hello Joanne,
It is daunting and time-consuming to take public buses going from Mutianyu to Ming Tombs. Basically, you need to hire a private vehicle to get to the Tombs from Mutianyu.
Or you may take a bus tour organized by the local tour operators for Mutianyu Great Wall + Ming Tombs day tour US$ 30 per person. But there are two shopping stops on the one day coach tour ( see http://www.tour-beijing.com/coach_tours/mutianyu_and_sacred_way_tour.php ).
So basically you can hire a car or join in the bus tour to visit the two places. Have a good time in Beijing!
Hello,
I went to Dongzhimen Public Transport hub today looking for Tourist Bus 867. I went to the North Platform at 6:45 am, and I was told that there is no bust 867. Did I go to the wrong place? Or does this bus not run anymore? Thank you for your help.
Hello Robert,
Sorry, the Bus 867 is not inside the Dongzhimen Public Transport hub. The 867 Bus Stop is to the east of the hub. You exit from Exit B of Dongzhimen Subway Station ( line 2 ), then walk to the east for about 100 meters, then turn left and enter Dongzhimen Outer Byway (东直门外斜街), continue to walk about 200m, you will see the Bus 867.
The 876 Bus Stop is on Dongzhimen Outer Byway. The byway is quite long. So if you google “Dongzhimen Outer Byway”, it is not easy to locate the bus 876. But the Bus 867 is close to 7 Days Inn ( a cheap chain inn ), you can easily locate the rough spot of the Bus 867.
Chinese add: 地铁2号线东直门B口出来,向前即东方直行100m左右,左拐进入东直门斜街,沿斜街直行200m 左右即到去慕田峪长城的867专线汽车。
You can print the Chinese address to ask a local Chinese to help you locate the bus stop.
Have a great day in Mutianyu!
Hi,
I am intending to take Bus 936 to Qinglong Gorge Scenic Area this coming end Oct/early Nov. Where to locate the bus at Dongzhimen and how long does the journey take to Qinglongxia?
Thanks in advance!
Hello HJ,
The Bus 936 is a slow bus. The 75-km bus drive takes over 2 hours covering more than 40 stops from Dongzhimen to Qinglong Gorge Scenic Area. When you get off, you still need to walk about 1.5 km to reach the gorge itself.
How to locate the bus stop for 936?
You take subway line 2 and get off at Dongzhimen and exit from Exit E and walk to the east direction for about 180 meters, then turn north at the crossroad, continue to walk about 200 meters and you will find Bus 936. Have a good time!
By the way, Bus 936 is not located inside Dongzhimen Transport Hub.
Hi,
is bus 867 still operating? i read here that the bus no longer operated and only 916 bus operates and i need to take taxi hike?

Hello Martin,
Thanks for your question, which has reminded us of the change regarding the travel route and timetable for the Bus 867.
Please note the Bus 867 is no longer a direct drive from Beijing Dongzhimen to Mutianyu Great Wall. Instead the Bus 867 stops at Hongluosi (红螺寺) in Huairou District where you change for the same Bus 867 from Hongluosi to Mutianyu ( two times a day listed above).
Beijing Dongzhimen – Hongluosi ( 红螺寺) 867 Bus Line is run every half hour from 7:00am to 5:00pm
Hongluosi ( 红螺寺) – Beijing Dongzhimen 867 Bus Line is run every half hour from 7:00am to 5:00pm
Hongluosi ( 红螺寺) – Mutianyu Great Wall 867 Bus Line is run at 10:00am and 12:00am ( two times a day )
Mutianyu Great Wall – Hongluosi ( 红螺寺) 867 Bus Line is run at 2:00pm and 3:00pm ( two times a day )
Hi,
I have a question regarding payment… do you pay for your ticket while boarding the buses or do you need to buy them in advance?

Have a good time!
Hi
If i take the Bus 916, Where do I step off in Huairou??
And what do I Ride there to Mutianyu? 🙂
Thanks!!
Hi Andrei,
You should get off at the stop of Beidajie ( North Street ) 北大街 in Huairou. On the route before you arrive at Beidajie ( North Street ) in Huairou,Some touts will shout at you, and ask you to get off for their transfer service to Mutianyu Great Wall. Just ignore them!
You get off at North Street in Huairou, then hire a local van going for Mutianyu Great Wall (RMB 50 ).
The whole process takes about 3 hours.
Have a good time.
I need to take the earlies bus 852 to pinggu district..
Where can I find it ? And how long will it take to get to Pinggu district bus terminal ?
Or please tell me the fastest way to Beijing glass platform in pinggu district…
Thanks
Hi Farhan,
It takes over 2 hours by taking Bus 852 ( plus locak bus No.25 ) from Dongzhimen Public Transport Hub to Shilinxia Scenic Area ( where the glass platform is perched).
To get to the Shilinxia Scenic Area, you may take the public bus 852 or 918 from Dongzhimen Transportation Hub for Pinggu District.
The Bus 852 is faster than Bus 918. Arriving at Pinggu District Bus Terminal, then you change for the local bus No.25 for the Pinggu Stone Forest Gorge or Valley.
For self-drive ( fastest way ), just drive along the Jingping Expressway and get off at Pinggu District and follow the road sign leading to the Shilingxia scenic Area.
Hi,
We are looking into visiting
a) Qinglongxia Resort
b) Shidu National Park and
c) Jingdong Canyon (Pinggu)
but found very little information on how to get to these spots by public transport.
Thank you in advance!
Best,
Eve
Dear Eve,
Below is just for your reference:
1. Qinglongxia Resort
Take Bus 936 from the Dongzhimen transport hub and get off at the 53th stop of Qinglongxia Daokou 青龙峡道口站 ( the last bus two stop on the bus line )
Bus Business Hours: 6:40 – 21:00
2. Shidu National Park and
Take Bus 917 from Tianqiao Bus Station ( Not Dongzhimen Hub), and get off at the stops between the 56th and 67th stops.
“Shidu” literally means “Ten Ferries”. There are actually 18 ferries in Shidu area.
Check out the How to visit Shidu for more information: http://www.tour-beijing.com/blog/beijing-travel/beijing-excursions/how-to-visit-shidu
3. Jingdong Canyon (Pinggu)
First taking Bus 852 from Dongzhimen Hub for Pingu District and get off at the 15th stop of Chengpingyuan 承平园, walk about 30 minutes and connect the local Bus 12 and alight at the 15th stop of Daxiagu ( Grand Canyon )
By the way, there are also two interesting hotspots in Pinggu:

May i know from mutianyu great wall, how to go Huaibei ski resort?
Dear Cindy,
As far as I know, there is no direct public bus line between Mutianyu and Huaibei.
There is a bus line No.936 starting from Dongzhimen Hub directly to Huaibei Ski Resort.
