Plan your Fujian Tour? Listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, both natural and cultural, Mount Wuyi (Wuyishan or Wuyi Mountains) is one of your choices when you are planning your trip to Fujian.

Tianyou Peak ( or Heavenly Tour Peak 天游峰) is located in Tianyou Scenic Area in Wuyi mountains (Wuyishan) of Fujian Provice. It lies at the altitude of 409.6 meters, one of the must visited attractions in Mount Wuyi.

The Tianyou ( Heavenly Tour ) Peak Scenic Area is situated around the 5th and 6th bend of the Nine-Bend River. Tianyou Scenic Area maily includes Wuyi Academy of Classical Learning, Clouds’ Lair as well as Tianyou Peak.

The highlight of visiting Tianyou Peak is to climb the 828 steep stone steps up to the top of the mountain and have A bird’s-eye view of the surrounding peaks and hills made up of red sandstone with very steep slopes but flat tops including the 6th bend of the Nine Bend River below.

This morning we took a local public bus No.06 for Tianyou Peak Scenic Area, which is about 3km west of our lodging hotel in Wuyi Mountain Resort. We walked for half hour and got to the entrance to Tianyou Peak.

The normally people climb up Tianyou Peak from its front and walk down its back. Tianyou Peak’s front steps are very steep and a little risky while its back side is relatively smooth and safe.

So many tourists would hike Tianyou Peak upfront and climb down at its back. The views are stunning with the different heights you get to when you are climbing Tianyou Peak.

The Wuyishan National Holiday Resort has been developed from the natural village known as “San Gu Village”. Much of the land in San Gu Village has been used by the local government for developing the national holiday resort. For used land, the villagers get some compensation fees according to the compensation for land policies concerned.

Many San Gu villagers set up stores or restaurants in the old streets to cater for the increasing number of tourists staying in the holiday resort. Some lend their houses to the newcomers who come here for new development and new life in Wuyishan.

Transportation at Wuyishan Holiday Resort
The holiday resort is not very big. You are advised not to use those pesky trishaw drivers if possible. An honest trishaw driver would charge RMB 5 for anywhere within the resort. Taxis are available at the hotels and in the main streets in the resort.he Bus No.06 runs between the resort and Wuyishan City as well as Wuiyishan Train Stationa and Wuyishan Airport.

Walk from the resort to Wuyishan Scenic Area
Once in the resort, if you going to visit Wuyishan Scenic Area, you don’t have to bother going to either North Gate or South Gate for buying entrance tickets.

You just walking cross the Lan Tang Bridge over Chongyang Stream, then continue to walk another 20 or 30 minutes and get to Wuyi Palace where many shuttle buses waiting for people on board for the attractions in Wuyishan Scenic Area. You are supposed to buy the entrance and bus tickets at the service house near Wuyi Palace.

The Nightlife in Wuyishan Holiday Resort
“Impression Dahongpao” is a must to see outdoor musical show co-directed by Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue.

The evening show is based on natural landscape as both the stage and background. The interesting breakthrough is that the audience seats can move offering a view of 360 degrees. The entrance around RMB 230.

Best Time to Visit Wuyishan

Plan your Wuyishan Tour? Wuyishan or Wuyi Mountain is a popular mountain retreat in the northeast of Fujian Province off  China’s southeast coast. Its waterfalls, rivers,  mountains and forests are combined to draw a great number of  visitors both domestic and oversea each year.   In 1999, Mount Wuyi was listed as UNESCO’s World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site.

Then,  when is the best time to visit Wuyishan? Wuyishan is officially open all year round. Its relatively mild and comfortable weather make it visitable in the four seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter.  But which is the best month or best season to go to Wuyi Mountain? It mainly depends on your choices based on scenery, crowd tolerance and budget.

December, January and Febuary (Winter Season)
These three months are tourist off season.  For a mountain retreat,  this time of the year is not at its best in terms of scenery, plus a chilly weather. In addition, the whole area often falls into a rainy mist.

If you happen to visit Wuyishan during the slack season,  you will be rewarded with discounted accommodations and transportation.  Most importantly, you will have the area to yourself!  If luck follows you, you will see the whole area blanketed by white snow, a unique view of Wuyishan Mountain.

With a big temperature difference between day and night, you should bring with you the winter jacket and sweater, walking and climbing slow due to the cold weather.

March, April, June and November (Shoulder Season)
Personally,  I think these four months are good time  to visit Wuyishan, comfortable weather , green scenery and less crowded than peak season  ( July, August and September).

Sometimes it rains in March and April, don’t forget to bring your umbrella.

May, July, August, September and October (High season)
These four months find hordes of tourists flocking into Wuyishan Mountain.  July and August are the summer time in Wuyshan, alao the  school vacation time, a great time for family travel.

My personal experience tells me to avoid visiting Wuyishan in July and August to keep away from crowds, the uncomfortable humid weather and scorching sun!

Avoid going to Wuyi Mountain on May 01 – 03 for China’s Labor’s Day and Oct 01 – 07 for China’s National Holiday.

In a word, come to Wuyishan in March, April, June and November, the best traveling months for visiting Wuyishan – good scenery, less crowded and comfortable weather.  If you happen to visit Wuyishan in other seasons,  it is all right!   Wuyi Mountain welcomes you 365 days each year.
