Hangzhou Railway Station for High Speed Trains

Plan your Hangzhou tour? If you take a high speed train to Hangzhou ( from Shanghai, Beijing or other major cities in China), you will alight at Hangzhou East Railway Station (also known Hangzhoudong Railway Station 杭州东站) or Hangzhou Railway Station.

Hangzhou mainly has two train stations – Hangzhou Railway Station ( old one ) and Hangzhou East Railway ( new one). Hangzhou East Railway Station receive most of the high speed trains in and out of Hangzhou while the old Hangzhou Railway Station still handles some portions of the high speed trains too.

Today, let’s talk about the newly built Hangzhou East Railway Station, which is mainly designed for highspeed trains. Hangzhou East Railway Station was put into operation from July 1, 2013. The east railway station is huge with a construction area of one million square meters.

The main railway station building has a total construction area of 340,000 square meters. It is composed of 5 floors – First Floor: platforms for outgoing and incoming highspeed trains; Second floor for the huge waiting hall and departure gates; B1 for arrival hall where you can find the taxi service at the east and west sides; B2 and B3 are designed for subway (Now Subway Line 1 and Subway Line 4 ).

Hangzhou East Railway Stations has two squares – East and West squares where you have public buses connecting the main areas in the downtown Hangzhou.

In addition to taxis and public buses, subway is the most convenient mode of transport coming to or leaving from the train station. Subway Line 1 and Subway Line 4 are designed for the east railway station. At the time of my writing, only subway line 1 is available, connecting the east train station to the downtown Hangzhou.
