The World Travel & Tourism Council’s latest Economic Impact Report (EIR) reveals the Travel & Tourism sector is expected to create nearly 126 million new jobs within the next decade.

The bullish forecast from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), which represents the global Travel & Tourism private sector, also shows the sector will be a driving force of the global economic recovery, creating one in three of all new jobs.

The announcement was made today by Julia Simpson, President & CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council, in her opening speech at its prestigious Global Summit in the Philippines.

Domestic travel dominates in US

Travel intent in the US continued to favor the domestic market, according to the latest Hotel Guest Survey from BVA BDRC.

The study found that 78% of leisure guests had already booked a domestic stay, or were highly likely to, as the overseas leisure market remained weak, with only 35% of travelers eyeing a break.

Matthew Petrie, President of BVA BDRC Americas, said: “Potential outbound travelers from the US have only recently started to see restrictions lift, after rigorous travel bans were put in place.

“The US is rich in destinations, from cities to beaches to mountains, with an extensive road network, all of which has encouraged people to pursue driving trips and explore the country while enjoying the comfort and convenience of utilizing their own vehicles.”

The domestic leisure market has dominated the sector during the pandemic, with an average of 5.5 leisure trips taken over the past two years - led by Generation Y, with 6.3 trips - against 2.2 overseas leisure trips. From each city’s peacefulness to the amount of wellness activities, the study looks at 10 different factors across 55 of the most popular cities in the world to determine which cities rank highest for booze-free travel.

‘Wellness tourism’ is a growing trend and in 2022, GWI predicts the market will reach a whopping £731bn – representing 18% of all global tourism.

Zimbabwe is top trending wedding destination for 2022

A new study by financial comparison company money.co.uk has revealed the top trending wedding destinations in 2022 and beyond.

Claiming first place is Zimbabwe in Southeast Africa, which has seen a 56% year-on-year increase in searches. With so much on offer, it is a destination that can fulfil any couple's vision for their big day. Whether the soon-to-be-married pair want to tie the knot at a safari lodge to chance to get elephants in the background of their wedding pictures or they want the stunning views of the banks of Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe ticks a lot of boxes.

Italy and South Africa are joint-second on the top 10 list, both seeing a 40% year-on-year increase. Both destinations offer happy couples plenty of choices when it comes to beautiful venue options; from idyllic villas set in the rolling hills of Tuscany to the beautiful South African vineyards in Stellenbosch.

Portugal and Kenya are next on the list taking fourth and fifth position, followed by countries that are renowned for their beautiful beaches. Thailand rounds off the top five trending wedding destinations as a result of searches increasing by 23% thanks to those dreaming of a wedding in Phi Phi or Phuket.
