Plan your Lanzhou trip? If you are interested in killing your night time in drinking at bars or pubs, Lanzhou will not let you down. Lanzhou has two bar streests – Gannan Street (甘南路) and Maijishan Road (麦积山路).

This time I didn’t go to Majishan Street due to my time shortage in Lanzhou. Instead I went to Gannan Street at the suggestion of a local taxi driver. To visit a new city, chatting with a local cab driver will give you a lot of insight information on the city you are going to explore.

Gannan Road or Gannan Street is one of the main avenues running from east to west in Lanzhou. Its eastern tip is Lanzhou University, close to my lodging hotel in Lanzhou.  The taxi dropped me off somewhere in the middle of Gannan Road. So I decided to walked along Gannan Road to my hotel in Lanzhou next to Lanzhou University.

Far from my expectation, unlike most of the bar streets in other cities clustered with bars, Gannan Road is a very long street, dotted sparsely with bars and night clubs. Maybe it is the longest bar street in China. But the bars and pubs here are not so densely congregated. All the bars and pubs are mingled with shops, restaurants and even office buildings on the both sides of Gannan Road.

If you are interested in local snacks of Lanzhou, you may go to the night food market – Zhengning Road Night Snack Market.
