History: Zhengzhou, as one of the earliest residential areas of the ancient Chinese, is reviewed as the cradle of Chinese ancient civilization with the long history. It was acknowledged as capital city in Shang Dynasty, named Bo. Its importance declined when the rulers of Shang finally moved to the city of Anyang.
Zhengzhou regained its importance through the Peking-Hankou railway which was built between 1898 and 1906. It became a major hub. Another famous case of recent history was also related to the same railway. On February 7, 1923, railroad workers went on strike. The local warlord shot 35 workers dead. This event was remembered as one of the first workers' movement in China.
During the Sino-Japan war, Chang Kai-shek blew the dykes of Yellow River to hold back the advancement of Japanese armies. He killed nearly one million people.
Climate: Zhengzhou enjoys a monsson-influenced, four-season humid subtropical climate with annual average temperature is 14°C. The summers are warm and humid, and the winters are cool, being, at times, cold enough to snow. The frost-free period lasts on average 220 days. The annual precipitation is about 630 millimetres (25 in), and there are about 2200 hours of sunshine per year.
Transportation: Air-Zhengzhou Xinzheng Airport, 37km southeast of the city centre, is one of five major airports of China with flights to other cities of China including of Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guilin, Hangzhou, Xian, as well as regular flights to Hongkong.
Railway-Zhengzhou, where the Longhai railway (east-west) meets the Jingguang railway (north-south), is a major railway hub in China. Everyday, Zhengzhou Railway Station has regular trains to most domestic cities.
Highway- Zhengzhou is the well-developed highway network, passed by The 107 National Highway, 310 National Highway, Lianhuo Highway and Jinggang'ao Highway. Zhengzhou Long-distance bus station offers buses to Beijing, Wuhan, Changsha, Xian, etc.

The pastries are known by the name Taosibao, which are available in several varieties with Chongyang huagao, Dajiujia, and Pipasu being the most popular ones.
