History: Zhenjiang is a time-honored city famous for history and culture. In accordance with the records, Zhenjiang has a history of more than 3000 years, and is an important origin of Wu culture. From 1928 to the Feb., 1949, Zhenjiang was the capital of Jiangsu Province.
Climate: According to the record from 1971-2000, its annual average temperature is 15.6℃ with the extremely highest temperature of 40.2℃ and the lowest temperature of -10.1℃. There is 1088.2-mms rainfall.
Transportation: Railway- The Beijing-Shanghai Railway goes through Zhengjiang from west to east. The Beijing-Shanghai High Speed Railway cuts across the area. Nearly every train running along the Shanghai-Nanjing rail line stops at the Zhenjiang Railway Station. There are also trains from Zhenjiang to Shanghai, Tianjin, and Wenzhou.
Highway- National Highways 312 and 104 along the Yangtze River, the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway all pass through Zhenjiang. The Yangtze River Bridge between Zhenjiang and Yangzhou connects Zhenjiang with the northern Jiangsu and other provinces in central China.
Waterway-Situated in the cross of Yangtze River and Jinghang Grand Canal, waterway is the vitals of the development of Zhenjiang.
Specialties: The handcrafts of Zhenjiang are very popular.
Local Food: Zhengjiang cuisine is well-known for “three fishes and three odds”. Three fishes refer to Shiyu, Daoyu and Huiyu. Three odds refer to Yao Meat, fragrant vinegar and pot cover noodle.
Attractions: Jinshan Temple – Jinshan Temple (金山寺), the oldest temple in Zhenjiang, has became a symbol of Zhengjia city. Jinshan Temple is 44 meters high and was originally built in East Jin Dynasty. The architectural complexes hold the Mt. Jinshan in the arm.
Xijindu Old Street-Xijingdu old street (西津渡古街) gathers the most cultural relics. The oldest structures are at the crest of a hill, and date from the Yuan Dynasty,around 1200 AD. The tree shaded streets around this area are lined with a fascinating melange of neo-European and traditional Chinese buildings.
