History: As early as the Paleolithic age, human being once dwelled on this area. It was once the territory of Qing Kingdom. Ya’an has a history of over 2,000 years as a city. After Qin Dynasty, it was under the administration of all prefectures. In the early period of liberation, Ya’an was the capital of Xikang Province and divided into Sichuan Province in 1955. In 2000, it was upgraded into city-level. The notable Fulin Culture Relics, Dengtong Coinage Relics, South Silk Road Relics and Precious relics of Han Dynasty are excavated.
Climate: Ya’an enjoys a subtropical monsoon humid climate with an annual average temperature of 17.9℃. Yan’an is known as “rainy city” because it has the highest precipitation in Sichuan Province, about 1800mm annually. In the short winters, they help shield the city from cold Siberian Winds. January averages 6.3 °C (43.3 °F), and while frost may occur, snow is rare. Summers are hot and humid, with highs often reaching 30 °C (86 °F), yet extended heat waves are rare; the daily average in July and August is around 25 °C (77 °F).
Transportation: Ya’an is known as the “throat of Western Sichuan”, the “gate of Tibet” and the “corridor of Nation”.
Airline- A branch Airline is under construction in Mingshan District, Ya’an City.
Railway-At present, there is no railway station in Ya’an, which are in planed.
Highway- State Road 318 and 108 get through Ya’an city. It take only one an hour to Chengdu.
Leshan-Ya’an Highway has been opened to public.
Local Food: Casserole Ya’ an Fish is a specialty dish in Ya’an. Dada Noodle is another traditional dish in Ya’an with a history of more than 100 years.
Attractions: Mengding Mountain-Mengding Mountain (蒙顶山), situated in southwest of Sichuan Provicne, is a provincial scenic and historical interest area in Sichuan. The mountain is 10km long, 4 km wide with a shape of lotus in top. The highest peak, Shangqing Peak, has a altitude of 1456 meters.
Bifeng Valley-Bifeng Valley (碧峰峡), about 8km from Ya’an city, insists of two valleys. It is well-known for the lush trees, cliffside spring and waterfalls.
