History: It has been found that primitive clan inhabitants lived in Nantong 5,000 years ago. From Han Dynasty to Tang Dynasty, it was a minor county adjunct to Yangzhou. By 958 AD a city of sufficient importance had developed for a new, independent prefecture called Tongzhou. In 1368AD, the increasing wealth of Yangzhou caused Tongzhou to be once again eclipsed as an administrative center. Tongzhou became a provincial state in Qing Dynasty.
Climate: With a humid subtropical climate, Nantong has four distinct seasons. The winter is cold and humid and with the influence of Siberian high, cold northwest wind makes temperature to fall below freezing. Snowfall is relatively uncommon in winter. The summer is hot and humid because downpours often occur which concentrates in June and July. The annual average temperature is 15℃.
Transportation: Air-Nantong Xingdong Airport is 18 km northeast of Nantong downtown, connecting Nantong and other main cities of China.
Railway: Nanjing-Qidong Railway runs through the city.
Highway- Nantong has three long-distance stations such as Nantong Coach Station, Yongxing Coach Station and Langshan Coach Station.

Attractions: Langshan Scenic Spot- Situated in the southern suburb of Nantong city, Langshan Scenic Spot (狼山风景区) is a place integrating cultural and historic relics. It is a national 4A grade scenic area for its beautiful scenes, magical Buddhist culture and rich cultural deposits.
Shui Hui Yuan Garden- The Hui style Shui Hui Yuan Garden (水绘园), meaning Water Garden, is unique among all of China’s classic gardens. The garden was built in the Ming Dynasty and now it contains three parts: People’s Park, Yu Xiang An, and Shui Ming Lou. Yu Xiang An and Shui Ming Lou combine characteristics of both southern and northern Chinese gardens. It is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese ancient architecture. Rugao Museum is situated in the garden and has a collection of precious, local artifacts.
