Xidan Shopping Area

 This area is north of West Chang'an Avenue and has many different shopping options. It's regarded as the second Wangfujing.The main focus of the area is 5 or 6 giant malls. These are very old fashioned, Chinese style malls, similar to a US department store. Most have 5 to 7 floors and sell the usual stuff you would expect. Xiadan Market is the largest shop, and it has recently been modernized. Wide range of merchandise is available along with a friendly and helpful staff makes shopping here extremely interesting. There is also a large Xidan Shopping Center in the immediate area. The Chung-Yo Department Store here provides an ideal shopping, dining and entertainment environment and its business is usually brisk. Xidan is undergoing a major transformation. A huge new department store called the Grand Pacific has opened. This is now one of the best general department stores. The underground area near the subway station is being transformed into a new mall called 77th Street. Xi Dan is a large area and is very crowded. Walking around it for any length of time can be very exhausting. To get there, best go by subway. There is a station right at Xi Dan. |
