Even the Pope knows it, and exhorts the rich to stem, with the crumbs of charity, the vast hunger for justice which two-thirds of mankind ready themselves to fight for. Today the thunder in Vietnam exalts Latin America to yet other Vietnams, and the marching songs of thirty million Red Guards in China earthquake the accepted order into a pandemonium of youth. Once again, I have stood on multitudinous platforms, in the United States, in Europe, a hundred platforms in the last two years, and talked of the signs and portents of this convulsion. Today with the mitral singing its song, another beginning lies in wait round the corner of the Canebiere. Time has miniatured the tears of my quaint ghost of 1938 into a ridiculous drizzle, grimace of personal woe when the face which they laboured becomes an eyeless windowpane.
