We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Guanzhong Chant

Guanzhong chant(关中道情) is a branch of Han shadow play drama and it is also called Chang’an chant. It is popular in Chang’an, Lantian, Hu County, Xianyang and Xingping. It can be divided into east road tune and west road tune while the former one popular in either side of Yellow River and the latter one is popular in northern Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia.

Sometimes, there would also have many competitions among different chant groups and they often sing the chant all over the night. During the years of Qing Emperor Qianlong, there emerged chant groups in Xi’an and Guanzhong regions, such as “Baqiao Chant Group”, “Yinzhen Chant Group”, “Ziwu Chant Group” and so on. In the border areas of Shaanxi-Gansu and Shaanxi, Guanzhong chant become a popular art form of the masses during the anti-Japanese war and it has successilvy inspired people and propaganda revolution.

Before liberation, because of the destruction of the rule of the Nationalist Party mobilize, many chant groups would have been disbanded. And the old artist had no choice but to change their professions. Guanzhong chant was on the brink of extinction. After the founding of New China, Guanzhong chant got the party and the government's care attention. In 1959, the province drama school set up a chant class, hire artists to teach students about affections singing skills. So Guanzhong chant got a new life.
