We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Suzhou Silk Museum

Suzhou Silk Museum (苏州丝绸博物馆)was opened to public in 1991 with the intention of preserving Suzhou’s silk culture and heritage. It is multi-functional, and combines exhibits with demonstrations of silk weaving.

The dominant color of Suzhou Silk Museum is white, symbolizing the purity of silk. The museum is separated into two several parts: the Introductory Hall, the Ancient Exhibit Hall, the Silkworm-Rearing Room, the Silk Weaving workshop, the Neoteric (1840 - 1919) Exhibit Hall, and the Modern (1919 - 1949) Exhibit Hall.

There is a huge sculpture describing a camel caravan running from south to north, crossing an east-to-west road , which is the reminiscent of the Old Silk Road. The whole road was surrounded by vast deserts. In the center of the hall there is a stone wall on which four Chinese characters are carved. The characters are modeled on the inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells of the Shang Dynasty (16th -11th century BC). These four characters give a summary of all the exhibits of the museum.

The Ancient hall presents the history of silk production from the Neolithic Age to the Ming and Qing dynasties through models and pictures. The Modern and contemporary halls mainly display the production and weaving processes, silk celebrities and silk products that have won international prizes.
