Rong Mansion (Rong Guo Fu) was built for the screening of Dream of the Red Mansion, a famous Chinese classical novel. It is a complex of pseudo-classic architecture in the style of Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Covering an area of 37,000 square meters, the architectural complex consists of two parts: the mansion and the street. Rong Mansion covers a total area of 22,000 square meters, with 212 chambers and 102 verandas. Three roads segment the mansion: the east road, the middle road, and the west road. The middle road is the official yard of Jia Zheng, one of the novel’s characters, while the other two adopt Suzhou-style architecture. Besides acting as the setting of the Dream of the Red Mansion, more than 100 television series have filmed at Rong Mansion.
The must-see part of this area is the Cao Xueqin memorial, the author of Dream of the Red Mansion. It is situated in the southeast part of the residence. The memorial’s pictures and objects vividly represent the notable events in Mr. Cao’s life.
