Lao Ban Zhai(老半斋) is a time-honored brand in Shanghai. It was founded in the thirty-first year of Qing Emperor Guangxu (1905) in Shanghai. At first, it was a restaurant ran by several Yangzhou businessmen and its name was BanZhai General Assembly. Later, it was renamed Banzhai Restaurant. However, there was another restaurant named New Banzhai Restaurant. So the previous one was called Lao Ban Zhai Restaurant. It is an important part of Shanghai culture.
