Jiangnan Sizhu(江南丝竹) is a branch of the "Sizhu" music, popular in Shanghai, Nanjing and other southern regions. It is an important part of Shanghai culture. Sizhu refers to two types of musical instruments: string instruments and wind instruments. String instruments refer to silk and bamboo musical instruments such as the erhu, pipa, Chung-hu and so on. Sizhu instruments is a stringed instrument, mainly used for stringed bowed and plucked. Wind musical instrument is made of bamboo as material instruments such as flute, Sheng, Xiao and so on.
Jiangnan Sizhu has a lot of variety and extensive repertoire whose playing techniques are mature. It is good at large divertimento (tunes associated prefix), is one of China widely spread musical species. In recent decades, there have been some changes in Jiangnan Sizhu. The performers are attempt to be innovative in terms of classical music or orchestra, playing techniques aspects, namely, the inheritance and development simultaneously.
String and wind music is a streaming music in our historical heritage. Jiangnan Sizhu is a highly entertaining, which is a social fashion Shanghai.
