"Chongming school pipa(崇明派琵琶) is one of China's four major pipa which can reflect even small things in life, such as “flowers in the midst of thick foliage " reflects when it snows, the snow falling on pine needles; "fish swimming" reflects the fish swimming in the water like, very anthropomorphic. "
Chongming School pipa can be traced back three hundred years of the Qing Emperor Kangxi. Then, the North School Pipa spread to Chongming neighborhood Tongzhou district. Early Chongming school pipa was inherited from Bai Zaimei’s Northern School pipa and its style was influenced by the evolution of local customs.
"Early Yingzhou pipa music scores for the tune of Gongche spectrum, which is handed down by handwritten and dictation. In 1916, Shen Zhaozhou compiled and published for the first time the Yingzhou tune, which include forty-five music, including twenty-two adagio, seventeen allegro, five paper plates, one military board composition, which is representative essence track of Yingzhou tune.
Compared with the former "smash hit" Yingzhou tune heritage is facing difficulties. 68-year-old Zhao Hongxiang told reporters that he learned pipa from his grandfather since he was 13 years old, that he has played Yingzhou tune for half of his whole life, the only regret is not to pass on this unique skill. He also told reporters that now there many children learn pipa, but most are for grading.
In the 1940s and 1950s, there are three heroes of Chongming School pipa: Yang Xudong, Zhou Nianwen, and Zhao Zhishan. In 1980s, the County Museum census folk music, found Gong tongpei, Zhu Shida, Zhao Hongxiang and other successors. Currently, only one person Zhao Hongxiang can play the divertimento, and several others can only play a few parts, so that the protection of heritage rescue work is imminent.
