Chenhang proverbs(陈行谣谚) is Shanghai Han folk proverbs. It is an important part of Shanghai culture. Chenhang county area is the homeland of Shanghai Cheng Huang Qin Yubo whose local culture has a long history. Although the name of regional government agencies have changed, their jurisdiction is always the same size, and up to 211 years, so Chenhang proverbs have clear context, rich heritage and a unique cultural space.
The way that Chenhang people speak matters nothing with their accent, so that there are many local people good at making stories and singing songs. As a result, Chenghang area has a rich abundant of legends songs and proverbs.
Shanghai proverb is one of the few big famous proverb dialect area. Its center is a popular area of Shanghai Chenhang district, it is also called Chenhang proverb. The “Shanghai Proverb” compiled by Chenhang people Hu Zude was published in 1914 in Shanghai.
As China's famous collection of modern Han folk proverbs, it had gained much academic attention. Its content covers politics, culture, common sense, social life, local, production, natural and other categories, full of ancient local people’s "rich wisdom and universal experience."
More than 2,000 proverbs in "Shanghai Proverb" mainly collected in Chenhang region, and most of them are still in apply in recent decades. Chenghang area is a very typical suburban Shanghai countryside. It is an epitome of traditional market town and village house evolution. Since October 2000, Chenghang area was normalized Pujiang Town, Minhang District.
Chenghang area is the home town of Shanghai County Cheng Huang Qin Yubo whose zoning build is stable.
