Baoshan folk songs (宝山民谣) are divided into short ballad, minor, labor chant in terms of singing form. It is an important part of Shanghai culture. The accent is differentiate by areas, including Dongxiang, Xixiang and Jiangkou (Changxing, Hengsha two islands). The main content of Baoshan folk songs are to express love, people have the saying of "no brother and sister is not a song.” In addition to reflecting the farming life, customs, there are songs to commemorate historical figures, as well as humorous songs, songs, etc. These folk songs have unpretentious musical structure and rich flavor of life.

In 20 years (1931) of the Republic of China, after the incident"918", anti-Japanese songs spread throughout urban and rural areas and the school's singing activities were particularly active. In 24 years of the Republic of China, before and after the "12•9" campaign, Nie Er, Xian Xinghai, Lu Ji and others have come to teach the workers and peasants to sing "Plow Song", "Porter Song" and so on. In March 1953, Luodian choir was formally established. To 1958, there are more than 40 chorus ib Luonan and other counties and they "singing every day, hold concert every week." In 1960's, "Singing in Red May", "We Sing Together" and other activities were extensively held.
