Location: Sansha(三沙) is one of three prefecture-level city in Hainan province. The jurisdiction of Sansha City includes the reefs and waters of Xisha Islands, the Zhongsha Islands and the Nansha Islands. Sansha government resides at Yongxing Island, a major landmark among the Xisha Islands.

History: The history of the South China Sea is as long as that of China mainland. South China Sea and its islands was first discovered, named, developed and managed by Chinese ancestors. In 221 BC, First Emperor of Qin unified the world and divided the country into 42 counties. He set South China Sea County, Guilin County and Xiang County in Lingnan Region.
In 1973, relic information unearthed in Changsha Mawangdui, the South China Sea was first marked on topographic maps of the Han Dynasty. In Tang Dynasty, the central government implement administrative management to islands in South China Sea.
Related to the South China Sea during the Ming administrative divisions had become more stable, the Chinese government not only fully included it in the territory, and further confirmed it belongs Qiongzhou jurisdiction.
In May 1950, Hainan Island was liberated. On the administrative divisions, the South China Sea Islands still belong to Guangdong Province and the chief administrative relationship affiliated to Hainan Administrative Region of Guangdong Province.
On July 24, 2012, Sansha government was formally established as the prefecture-level city China.
Climate: Sansha City has a tropical monsoon climate. Sansha City suffers direct solar radiation two times a year and the total amount of annual solar radiation values are 140 kcal / square cm. Sansha City enjoys summer weather year round, heat and temperature are the highest in China. But due to the regulation of the ocean, the city rarely suffers the intense heat of summer.
Transportation: By the end of 2013, airports, ports and road facilities on Yongxing Island have been built to improve the island. Five major roads, including Beijing Road, Hainan Road, Xuande Road, Yongxing Road and Yongle Road have been built. There are a comprehensive tender ("Qiongsha the 3rd").

Attractions: Yongxing Island(永兴岛) is the only island which can receive tourists in South China Sea. The government of Sansha City is located on Yongxing Island. In fact, the scenery on the island is not much different from it on other islands. However, diving on Yongxing Island is much better. You can see various fish and colorful coral reefs in the sea. It is honored as China’s Maldives.
