History: According to the historical data, in Han Dynasty, Fang county was set up in the area and cancelled in West Jin Dynasty. From Jin Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, the region was one part of Guangning prefecture. In 1913, it was founded as Panshan County and it was directly governed by Liaoning Province. In Feb., 1956, Panshan county was divided into Liaoyang. On 5th, June, 1984, the State Council cancelled Panshan county and authorized Panjin county to upgrade to city-level.
Climate: Panjin is under the influence of warm temperate continental semi humid monsoon climate with four distinctive seasons. The monthly temperature averages from 22℃-24℃ in July, -9℃--11℃ in January. Rainfall mostly occurs in summer, taking up 62.9% of the precipitation for the whole year.
Transportation: Air-There is no airport in Panjin, however, it is 120km from Shenyang Taoxian International airport, 260km from Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport and 100km from Jinzhou Xiaolingzi Airport.
Railway- Tangwanshan-Goubangzi Railway, Qinhuangdao-Shenyang Railway and Harbin-Dalian High-speed Railway meet joint at Panjin.
Highway- Panjin has the most density highway network in Liaoning Province. Beijing-Harbin Highway, Dandong-Xilin Hot Highway and Fuxin-Yingkou Highway run through the city.
Local Food: Panshan county in Panjin city is the largest place of producing river crab. Panjin rice offers specially for the Olympic Games.
Attractions: Red Seabeach- Red Seabeach (红海滩) is in the southwest of Panjin city, featuring acres of red landscape. It is the result from Suaeda Salsa, which is a kind of tough intertidal plants. The Suaeda Salsa grows up in April or May in green color and turns into strong red in September, overspreading the whole beach like a red blanket.Red Seabeach is also the national preserve, which is the home for 236 kinds of bird and 30 kinds of rare animals.
