Location: Jiamusi (佳木斯) is an eastern city of Heilongjiang Province. Situated along the middle and lower reaches of Songhuajiang River, Jiamusi is across the Heilongjiang and Wusuli River from the Russia.

History: Although Jiamusi enjoys a long history, it was exploited a little late. During the Kangxi period in Qing Dynasty, the city was called Giyamusi. In order to prevent the aggression of Russia, Qing government, Jiamusi developed into a small trading post under the name Dongxing town. In 1910, Jiamusi became a county administration as more and more settlers moved into the area. Since the liberation in 1945, Jiamusi has become the political, economic and cultural center of Sanjiang Plain under the massive economic construction.
Climate: Jiamusi enjoys a continental monsoon climate featuring long, dry winter and short, humid summer. The annual average temperature is about 3℃. The monthly average temperature ranges from -18.5℃ in January to 22.5℃ in July. It has 500mm annual precipitation, 60% of which occurs from June to August. The frost-free period is about 130 days per year. The ground in Jiamusi freezes to a depth of 1.2m, beginning to freeze in middle November and beginning to thaw in late March.
Transportation: Airway- Jiamusi Airport is 10 kilometers away from the downtown. It offers domestic airlines to Beijing, Harbin and international airlines to Khabarovsk of Russia. The airlines o Beijing and Khabarovsk from Jiamusi are available every Wednesday and Saturday.
Railway-Jiamusi is the railway transportation hub of Heilongjiang Province. Suihua-Jiamusi railway, Jiamusi-Hegang railway, Tumen-Jiamusi railway, Jiamusi-Fuqian railway as well as Qianjin-Fuyuan railway run through the city.
Highway- Jiamusi highway network consists of 2 national roads, 6 provincial roads and 1213 local roads.
Waterway- As Songhuajiang river, Heilongjiang river and Wusuli river flow through Jiamusi, Jiamusi has convenient water traffic. Jiamusi Port, the major port along the downstream of Songhuajiang River, provides passengers ships from Jiamusi to Qiqihar, Harbin and Khabarovsk in Russia.
Specialties: The cloth and boots made from fish-skin as well as all kinds of ornaments made from fish bone are popular tourist souvenirs.
Local Food: Fish is the unique strengths of the local diet.
