History: Erenhot was built along with the Jining-Erenhot International Railway. Beijing-Ulan Bator-Moscow International Railway was put into operation in Jan., 1956 and Erenhot was authorized to set up in Jan. 1966. In Jan., 1985, Erenhot was upgraded to a prefecture-level city. State Department listed Erenhot as one of the 13 open city along the border.
Climate: Erenhot enjoys a temperate continental monsoon climate and arid desert steppe climate with an annual average temperature of 3.4℃. The spring is dry and rainless. The summer is short and hot. The autumn is cool. The winter is cold and long. Its mean precipitation is 142.2mm.
Transportation: Air-Erenhot Saiwusu International Airport has scheduled flights to the following three cities such as Beijing, Xilinhot and Hohhot.
Railway-Monglia Railway stops in Erenhot Railway Station. Because of the break –of- gauge between China and Mongolia, International trains change bogies here.
Highway-Erenhot is also the northern terminal terminus of China National Highway 208, which leave for Changzhi, Shanxi in south.
Attractions: Border Gate-Border Gate is a unique scenic spot in Erenhot city. The original border gate was built in 1984, which was replaced by the present one. The new border gate was constructed in 2003 and put into operation in 2005. It bestrides railway track with 39m wide, 22.5m high and 70.39m long.
Dinosaur Fossil Area in Erenhot-Dinosaur Fossil Area is highly reputed as the ‘hometown of dinosaur’ and ‘bomb of dinosaur’. Palaeontologist and geologist at home and abroad dug out over 10 kinds of dinosaur fossil in succession. Numerous intact dinosaur ossature instrument were excavated.
