We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

The Song of Chu

"The Song of Chu" is the total set of China's first poetry collection and romanticism of Sao class article. The name of "Chu" has existed since the early Western Han Dynasty and Liu Xiang had edited a collection. In Han Dynasty, Wang Yi annotated to the book.  The book originally recorded sixteen works of Qu Yuan, Huai Nan Xiao Shan, Dongfang Shuo, Wang Bao and Liu Xiangfu.  Later, Wang Yi added his own work “Nine Thought” into the original book. So the Song of Chu has a total of seventeen works. The book mainly recorded the works of Qu Yuan, the rest of the article is the inherited form of Qu Yuan. Its use of Chu (Note: now the Hunan, Hubei and west of Anhui) of literary style, dialect phonology and endemic property, etc., with a strong local color, hence got the name "Chu."

"The Song of Chu" had gone the process of the initial works of Qu Yuan, the imitation of other literati, the collection of early Han Dynasty, the compile by Liu Xiang and other course. The book’s first appearance should be from BC 26 BC to 6 years. However, the original book collected by Liu Xiang was lost because of various reasons and their descendants could only retrospect and speculated the original book indirectly through the best preserved Wang Yi’s "Songs of the South" (the original book also lost) and Hong Xingzu’s "Annotation of the Song of Chu" ("Songs of the South Chapters "supplement).

As a poetry collection following the "Book of Songs", the Song of Chu has the most far-reaching meaning for China's literature. "The Book of Chu" has unusual significance to the entire Chinese culture system, especially in literature. It created the poem of Chinese Romantic Literature. So such types or forms of literature was called the form of Chu Ci. The form of Chu Ci has significant influence on four major genres of poetry, fiction, essays and plays.

Synopsis of the Song of Chu
"The Song of Chu" is the earliest Romantic poetry collection and Romantic literature source in China. The name "Chu" first appeared in “Records of the Grand History of China." As a result, the name “Chu” appeared in the early Han Dynasty. Its original meaning, as is the song refers Chu speech. Later, it became professionals that refers to the Poetry body representatives created by Qu Yuan a scholar in Warring States Period, Chu Kingdom.

In the late of Western Han Dynasty, Liu Xiang collected the works of Qu Yuan and Song Yu, the works of scholars, such as Huai Nan Xiao Shan, Dong fangshuo, Wang Bao and Liu Xiang who inherited the literary form of Qu Yuan. The book altogether recorded sixteen works and it was named the Song of Chu. Later, Wang Yi added his own work “Nine Thought” into the book.

"The Song of Chu" use dialect rhyme of Chu (now Hunan, Hubei and the west of Anhui), narrated Chu mountains figures, and historical style, with a strong regional culture color. The main parts of the book are works of Qu Yuan, the rest of the papers are also inherited form of Qu Yuan. Their works are always effusive and have peculiar imagination. Compared with the "Book of Songs" quaint four-Poem, the Song of Chu have more active sentence. The sentence sometimes used Chu dialect, unique in the rhythm and rhyme, is more suitable for the performance of rich and complex thoughts and feelings.

Literary Contributions
"The Song of Chu" has an extremely broad and deep impact on the development of Chinese literature, almost every field of literature, and the various genres of literature there are different degrees of its presence. Zheng Zhenduo give high rating "Chu" in an article of "Qu Yuan works in the History of Chinese Literature": "like mercury spilled, like a bright sun in the sky, like a spring is to the flower, like the torch in the darkness of the starless night, forever in inspire excitement countless generations writers. "

Poetry in the Style of Li Sao
Poetry in the style of Li Sao includes odes and songs of Chu and they have two characteristics: one is use the works of the Song of Chu as the simulation examples; the other is the abundant use of “Xi”. And the use of “Xi” was the most significance from poetry in the style of Li Sao to other lyric genres.

Fu Style
The Fu Style literature originated from the Song of Chu. There are many different sayings about the origin of the Fu Style. In broad terms, it is related to the "Book of Songs" traditional style Warring States thinkers’ style of writing and strategists debate momentum parallelism. But the most important and most direct origin is "Songs of the Chu."

Prose and verse is relative. Although the Song of Chu is the verse, but the role it plays on prose is obvious. First, it has essays factors, such as the choppy sentences, with scattered cultural tendency. Second, it created such written rules and asked for ideas and methods are absorbed by prose. Third, insert in the prose of Sao sentence, the prose can express their emotions and can be inspirational.
