We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Colored Lantern

Chinese lanterns also referred to as the Lantern and it was originated in the Western Han Dynasty 1800 years ago. Before or after the annual Lunar New Year Lantern Festival, people hang red lanterns which symbolize reunion sense to create a festive atmosphere. Later, it became a symbol of the Chinese lantern festival. Colored lanterns through inheritance and development of ancient artists, forming a colorful variety and superb craftsmanship. Divided from the categories, there are: palace lanterns, gauze lantern, chandeliers and more. In terms of its shape, there are: figures, landscapes, flowers and birds, dragon, fish and insects, etc. In addition, there are revolving scenic lantern designed for people to play. The fifteenth day of the first lunar month is the first full moon night of the New Year. According to legend, Emperor Ming of Han Dynasty ordered on the 15th night of the first lunar month to hang lanterns in the palace and temple in order to promote Buddhism. Thereafter colored Lantern lights became a tradition in Lantern Festival. The tradition of hanging lanterns on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in Han Dynasty has been preserved. The habit of lantern display of lights gradually spread from the palace to the Han people. And at the same time, there has been a series of lanterns and other folk activities.

Enjoy lanterns has become a common practice in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. Around the Sui Dynasty, the Han folk carnival activities also joined with the custom of hanging colored lanterns at festivals. In the period of Emperor Yang of Sui, he would arrange stages on a large scale both inside and outside the palace.
