History: Chaoyang, named Dragon Town in the ancient time, is a renowned cultural city with a history of 1,700 years. The discovery of Hongshan Culture Relics attract world’s eye to Chaoyang as the birthplace of the Chinese Culture. It is praised as “the place to bloom the fist flower in the world ” and the “center of Oriental Buddhism”. During Manchukuo period, the east of Chaoyang under the jurisdiction of Kin-chow Province while the western part constituted Jehol Province. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Chaoyang was combined into Liaoning Province.
Climate: Chaoyang enjoys a continental monsoon climate. Under the double effects of ocean warm moisture in the southeast and dry freezing air in the north, Chaoyang features four distinctive seasons. It has cold but dry winter and hot, humid summer. The spring and autumn are relatively warm and short. The annual temperature averages from 5.4℃ to 8.7℃, while the temperature difference is large all the day. It gets 2850-2950 hours sunshine annually.
Transportation: Air-Chaoyang Airport, close to downtown, offers scheduled airlines to Beijing, Shanghai and Dalian every day.
Railway- Jinzhou-Chengde Railway and Mashan Railway join at the city, which strengthen Chaoyang’s land transport. Trains to Beijing, Dandong, Dalian, Shenyang, Chengde, Chifeng, etc are available in Chaoyang Railway Station.
Highway-Chaoyang Coach Station offers long-distant buses to majors cities in the province and outside such as Shenyang, Dalian, Anshan, Chifeng, Chengde, Yingkou, Panjin, Jinzhou, Jinzhou Port, Huludao, Liaoyang, Fuxin, etc.
Specialties: Traditional folk art is inherited and developed well including clay sculpture, wood carving, wood carving and embroidery.
Local Food: The integration of Manchun, Mongolian, Hui Nationality and Han Nationality make up the style of Chaoyang cuisine.
Attractions: Chaoyang Bird Fossil National Geopark (朝阳鸟化石国家地质公园) -Occupying an area of 70 hectares, the park consist of Shangheshou Paleontology Fossil Zone, Sihetun Paleontology Fossil Zone, Lingyuan Dazhangzi Zone, Fenghuang Mountain and Pagoda-tree Cave Scenic Area. The park is rich in the paleontology fossils of Mesozoic Era, so far, the earliest bird and blooming plants were discovered at the region.
