Description: Primi (普米族) is one of nationalities with long history and ancient culture. It mainly gathers in Yunnan province such as Lanping county in Nujiang prefecture, Ninglang and Yulong counties in Lijiang city, as well as Weixi county in Diqing prefecture.

Religion: Primi people believe in ancestor worship, natural worship and Buddhism from Tibet. Primi nationality thinks that god of heaven created the human being and everything and god of mountain provided the settlement of human. They consider that god get close relative with human’s daily life. They rely on that the soul of human is permanent, which will return to the birthplace of ancestors or go to heaven. So, they often held all sorts of sacrificial activities.
Clothing Character: According to the ancient convention, all the child before the age of 13, irrespective of sex, are dressed in a long linen gown with the right lappet covering the left one. The adult male wear linen coat, wide trousers and tie a waistband. Women have long hair and brush it on the top of head. In Ninglang, women leave a colorful wire in the middle of the skirt. It is said that the wire is the migration route of ancestors. After they die, they should go through the rout to look for own destiny.
Food Culture: Papa is the traditional food of Primi nationality. They live on corn, wheat, highland barley, oats and buckwheat. They eat large number of meat, especially pork. Wine is the favorite drink of Primi people.
Festivals: New Year’s Day (大过年) is one of the most solemn festivals from the 29th, the lunar December to the 7th, the lunar January. After the family reunion dinner, boys and girls on the age of 13 gather together by sex to hold a all-night carnival. On the Dragon Boat Festival, children in gala attire to pick up wild flowers.
Mt. Xuemenkan Festival (雪门槛游山节) is the traditional activity of Primi in Lanping. When cold draws back and mountain flowers are luxuriantly blooming, Primi mass carry food and instruments to enjoy themselves on the top of the Mountain Xunmenkan.
Adult Ceremony (成丁礼): For Primi, the age line between child and adult is 13. Before the age of 13, boys and girls both wear long gown. At the age of 13, girls put on linen coat, pleated skirt and beautiful waistband. Boys are dressed in linen coat, long trousers and waistband.
