Description: Jingpo (景颇族), with a population of 119,209, settles down in Tai Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong in Yunnan from generation to generation.
Language: Jingpo language and Zaiwa language.
Religion: Jingpo people think that everything in the world has spirit, which can bring disaster and fortune to human being. The ghost they worship is divided into three groups: god, hell ghost and ghost in home.
Clothing Character: Bamboo skirt is the traditional clothing of Jingpo nationality. Jingpo men like black or white round collar coat. The turban is saw patterns with lace or colorful pompon. Food Culture: Jingpo prefer to sticky rice and sweet porridge. The taste is sour and chili. They use the leaf of banana instead of table wares.
Festival: Munao Zongge (目瑙纵歌) means “dance together”. It is the largest traditional festival for Jingpo nationality, held after the Lantern Festival and lasts for nine days. In history, Munao was held when the harvest year, campaign, wedding and worshipping.
Nengxian Festival (能仙节) is a day of singing and dancing, centering on young boys and girls. On the 10th, February, all the boys and girls enjoy the festivals on plat area based on the hill at the back and overlooking the river. They are all dressed up, gather together to play matches of folk song, horse ridding and shooting.
Culture and Art: Jingpo is rich in oral literature, narrative poem, mythology, fable, proverb and riddle. Jingpo people is interested in singing and dancing, especially good at group dancing. Wooden drum, buroga bvrai, xiao, flute, pipe, elephant-foot drum, gong and cymbal are the traditional instruments of Jingpo nationality. Women are skilled in embroidery.
Customs: Whether going to market, marrying or visiting relatives, Jingpo people are used to carrying a basket containing wine, cooked egg and sticky rice ball inside. After accepting the basket, the master toasts to the guest.
