In the past, Deang had the convention of tattooing. They usually tattooed patters of tiger, deer, horse, flowers, grasses or lection in Tai language on the arm, legs and breast. Deang women have their head shaved and wrap turbans.
Food Culture: Deang nationality is fond of sour food and tea. Almost every household plants tea trees. Tea takes an important position in their life. They are accustomed to treating guests with tea. Tea is presented as meeting gift while visiting friends. Tea is viewed as the best stuff to dissolve conflicts.
Festivals: The Songkran of Deang is held in middle of the lunar April and lasts for three to five days. With the festival approaching, people are busy in preparing such as making rice papa, water breaker and so on.
In the morning of the festival, Deang people are all dressed up, go toward the Buddhist temple to listen to the lection. Then they hold a ceremony of cleaning the Buddha. The venerable elder take fresh flowers, dip water and sprinkle to the crowd. Subsequently, people begin to sprinkle water to each other.
Open-door day and close-door day are the largest festivals for Buddhists, which begins on the 15th, September and ends on the 15th, December. During this period, monks and priests are forbade from going out.
Folk Dance: The elephant-foot drum dance is the most widespread in Deang nationality. The men with drum and cymbals take a lead, others follow after. They dance in a circle according to certain footwork and gesture.
