We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Blang Nationality

Description: Blang (布朗族) is a native ethnic group in the southwest of China. It mainly distributes in Menghai and Jinghong in Xishuangbanna Tai Autonomous Prefecture as well as Shuangjiang, Yongde, Yunxian and Genma in Lincang region. According to the 5th census in 2000, Blang has a population of 91,882.

Language: Blang language contains Blang and Alwa dialects. They do not has their own character.

Religion: Blang people believe in Theravada Buddhism and ancestor worship.

Clothing Character: Blang men wear collarless short coat and black wide trousers. They usually wrap the head with black or white turban. Women’s clothes are similar to Tai nationality. They wear tight short coat without collar in the upper body and black or red and green tight skirt. The hair is wore up in a bun and wrapped with turban.


















Food Culture: The diet of Blang nationality is the important component of Blang’s material culture. They especially like the sour food such as sour bamboo shoot, sour meat and fish. Blang in Xishuangbanna prefer to the raw meat.

They often make wine by themselves. Blang women in Xishuangbanna, especially pregnant woman, have a liking for the local red clay. It is said that red clay can settle the stomache. Blang people is good at planting and making tea. Bamboo tea and sour tea is their specialties.

Festivals: New Year’s Day (过年节) is the most solemn festival for Blang nationality. On that day, each family eat sticky rice papa added into brown sugar. Then, it is packed into two pieces with plantain leaf. Each of them is inset a pair of candle and two flowers, and sent them to chieftain’s home. They wish the chieftain longevity. The chieftain also bless others for good luck, peace and health.


















Customs: Blang minority can both dance and sing. In common, they celebrate festivals by dance, song, wushu and vaudeville. Blang youth study all sort of tune and instruments at a younger age. So the dance of Blang is universal, no matter elder or younger, they will dance trippingly as long as hearing the music.

Architecture: The building of Blang nationality is mainly made of bamboo. It is divided into two layers: the upper layer for people and the lower one for livestock. A village consists of five or ten families with the same realtion.
