We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Lahu Nationality

Description: Lahu nationality (拉祜族), one of the ancient nationalities in China, originated in Gansu and Qinghai provinces. Nowadays, it mainly gathers in the west of Lancang River with a population of 411,476 on the basis of the 4th census.

Language: Lahu language

Religion: They believe in nature worship.

Clothing Character: Lahu people prefer to the black. In ancient time, Lahu people in regardless of men or women, wore robe. In modern times, men wear black short coat without collar, set white or skirt inside. The trousers are both long and fat.


















They usually wrap a turban or wear rind-style cap. Women are dressed in robe-style long gown with high slit on both sides. The lappets inlay silverbuble and silver medal. There are colorful geometric patterns. They wear long trousers and wrap turban on the head. In some regions, women like to bind colorful ribbon.

Food Culture: The diet style of Lahu nationality is unique. The live on rice and corn, potatoes, buckwheat take the second place. They husk rice with mortar and pestle every morning, then boil it. They boil vegetables and meat in a bamboo tube.

Such cooking method both keep the primary taste of vegetable and soak the fragrant of bamboo. They make wine, salted meat and mill bean curd by themselves. “La” mean “tiger”, and “Hu” refers to “roast meat”.

Just as its name says, Lahu people are used to roast meat. They cut meat into big slip, sprinkle with pepper powder, chili powder, spy plane and mashed garlic, nip it up with bamboochips, then it on the fireplace shelf.

















Festivals: The Spring Festival is the largest festival for Lahu nationality. On the 24th, the lunar December, the whole village do cleaning indoor and outdoor. Before New Year’s Eve, each household is busy killing pigs, cows, sheep and make baba.

On New Year’s Eve, they eat the family union dinner, then sing songs on New Year and dance. On the first day of the lunar year, each family sent someone to carry new water in a thick bamboo tube. (It is said that the water is the gift of god.)
